Sulema Limon

From First-Generation College Student to Business Owner

My name is Sulema Limon, I have been a Ventura native since my middle school years. My high school years were rough, with no direction or plans, and I was academically struggling. I was grateful to have Ventura College as a steppingstone, as an opportunity to achieve my goals (when I was ready and had a clear career path). Ventura College gave me the skills and knowledge I needed to prepare to transfer to a CSU school. In addition, the counselors and professors gave me direction in the courses and assisted in the planning phases for a successful transfer to a CSU school. Furthermore, they aided me in selecting my CSU school based on my goals to obtain a bachelor’s in business management, to eventually lead and own my own business. Coming from a Spanish speaking household, in 2009 I was the first college graduate in my family and extended family and transfer student to a CSU school. I then successfully transferred to CSUN with a VC foundation grant, and there thrived using the foundational skills and knowledge I learned at VC. Since then, I cofounded JSL Mastery Paving, Inc, a successful construction company specializing in earthwork and paving, where I have a role as a CFO. Furthermore, I am launching other business ventures to further my goals. Thank you Ventura College for being the beginning foundation of my successful path and journey.
