Queeneth Ejimole: Student Success
Nursing is more than a goal for Queeneth Ejimole, it’s a calling.
That calling was inspired by watching her mother care for a loved one after a stroke, shaping her path toward nursing.
Originally from Nigeria, the rigor of her coursework made it difficult to work while in the program, creating real financial challenges. Scholarships from the Ventura College Foundation and support from the Basic Needs Pantry helped ease that burden so she could prioritize her schooling at Ventura College.

My name is Quinnet Ajimo. I am studying nursing in the Ventura College School of Nursing. I grew up in Nigeria. I'm
0:08
Nigerian originally. I knew I wanted to be a nurse growing up because I watched my mom take care of my grandmother um
0:15
who had a stroke. So, it was basically um through her that I learned to care for people. That kind of like also gave
0:23
me like a sense of fulfillment helping her take care of my grandma. So, one of the challenges I faced while applying to
0:32
the school was like finances because in the in the nursing program they tell you not to work because it's time consuming.
0:39
There's a lot of reading to be done. So, um there's a lot of information. So, it's hard for you to like still keep a
0:46
job. So, that was like me getting I had to stop working. It's been like a struggle like paying my bills and
0:54
everything. Um getting supplies for school. The assistance I've received from Venture College Foundation has
1:01
helped me tremendously in the sense that I don't have to worry about finances as much. I am able to concentrate on my
1:09
studies. I've been able to get the Thomas B. O'Neal nursing uh scholarship.
1:15
I received that earlier this year. And um I also benefit from the basic needs pantry. you where you can go and get
1:22
like uh groceries once a week or you can walk in daily and grab uh snacks or meals for the day. I have a slogan that
1:31
I use. So the slogan is the basic needs uh saving students life one meal at a time.
1:39
I still want to be local after um finishing from school. I want to work in uh one of the hospitals we have in our community. Maybe the ER or ICU or pets.
1:49
I want to be able to help people in my community and also hopefully, you know, give back to the foundation as well and so that I can be able to help other
1:57
students and encourage students that are going through this school and give back to them somehow. To the donors of the foundation, uh, I want to say thank you.
