Courage to dream award

Make a donation to increase opportunities for VC DREAMers

More students than ever are reaching out for help finding their way to college. Between the 2024–25 and 2025–26 academic years, the DREAMers Resource Center saw a 237% increase in student contacts. This is proof of just how many undocumented students are searching for a path to higher education, and the support to get there.

The Courage to Dream Award was created to meet that need and remove financial barriers so that immigration status does not stand between a student and a Ventura College education. This award honors the resilience of students who have pursued their education against the odds, and it grows more vital each year.

Students accessing VC DREAMers resources were recently surveyed:

  • 65% of respondents said the Dreamers Resource Center helped them stay enrolled in their classes.
  • 70% said the center helped them work toward their academic goals.
  • 75% said it helped them access financial aid or scholarships.
  • 67% said it helped them feel supported at Ventura College.
  • 60% said it helped reduce stress related to their situation.

"I see every day how hard my students work to accomplish their dreams. I see the challenges they face, the sacrifices they make, and how they continue to push forward even when things are not easy. They are the reason I do the work I do.

Supporting my students means believing in them and reminding them that their dreams are possible. I am proud to be part of their journey and to help create opportunities that allow them to keep moving forward."
