Where It All Began: My Ventura College Story
Ventura College set the foundation for who I have become. From public school teaching to corporate sales, to my current roles in marketing and entrepreneurship—none of the milestones I’ve reached would have been possible if I hadn’t started my educational journey at VC.
For me, VC provided more than just a transfer path; it was where I first built professional and personal confidence. It was the first time I ever felt capable in a math class, and the Art History and Life Drawing courses I took made it easy to decide to major in the arts. Even the Magic, Witchcraft, and Religion course played a role, solidifying my curious nature and a lifelong love of learning. VC helped me become not just a successful transfer student, but a person who is constantly evolving.
Today, my career has come full circle. I serve as the Outreach & Engagement Specialist at The RP Group, a nonprofit that provides research, evaluation, and planning services to help all 116 California Community Colleges increase student success and equity. It is incredibly rewarding to work on behalf of the very system that gave me my start!
In addition to my work with the community college system, I recently launched my own business, Lucky Star Consulting. I focus on helping nonprofits and small businesses find their unique voice. Just as VC helped me find my own voice and confidence years ago, I now spend my time helping organizations and entrepreneurs do the same.
To current community college students, whether you’re in an Algebra class or an Anthropology lecture, you are building the confidence and skills to navigate any path you choose. My path was not linear, and your path might not be either. But it is the twists and turns that will reveal your unique character and capabilities; that uniqueness is your foundation to the successful life you are creating.
